FAQS
WHAT IS THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE RANGES OF ORANGE SEAL SEALANT ?
SUBZERO :
Optimized for riding below -0C, down to -25C or -30C.
Designed to fill SMALL punctures, and seal tubeless-ready (TLE/TLR/TR) tires in winter temps.
ENDURANCE RACE:
Optimized for Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter temps, from +45C down to -12C.
Designed to fill SMALL, up to MEDIUM sized punctures, and seal tubeless-ready (TLE/TLR/TR) tires.
Some people ask “can you mix the two sealants together?” - The answer is “yes”, and it can optimize performance results.
PREFFERED INSTALL METHOD
Remember that ENDURANCE sealant can seal holes twice as large as SUBZERO sealant, and it works down to -12C effectively. Below -12C, SUBZERO works most effectively at remaining in liquid state, right down to -30C and below.
The preferred installation method is to select ENDURANCE sealant to set up the initial tubeless install, and let that sealant coat the tires/wheelset with a layer of protection that seals any holes or air leaks. Some sealant will turn from liquid to solid, enough to leave a latex-like covering over the interior surface of the tire and rim. This layer will turn “porous” tubeless “capable” sidewalls into non-porous sidewalls that will not slowly leak air. Later, as winter progresses, it will be time to add the Subzero sealant to the mix, so you have the best of both worlds, the ENDURANCE sealant sets up the non-porous barrier inside your tire/wheelset setup, and the subzero stays in liquid state to seal small punctures when the temps dip below -15C, down to about -30C.
HOW MUCH SEALANT WILL YOU NEED IN YOUR TIRES?
4-6 fl oz :
26 x 4.25”
27.5 x 3.0”
29 x 2.3-2.5”
5-7 fl oz :
26 x 4.8”
27.5 x 3.8”
29 x 2.75-3.0”
6-8 fl oz :
26 x 5.0”
27.5 x 4.5”
29 x 3.25”+
HOW LONG DOES ORANGE SEAL SEALANT LAST (inside the tires)?
SUBZERO SEALANT :
Depending on the climate you live in, about 60-90 days, once installed tubeless.
ENDURANCE SEALANT :
In summer months, with high heat and low humidity, up to 30-45 days for fresh sealant (might be less, depends on heat and humidity levels - check your tires often)
In spring/fall and in mild winter months above -10C, expect the Endurance sealant to last longer, about 45-90 days before needing to top-up or reinstall.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHECK YOUR SEALANT LEVEL?
About once a month, take the wheelset off your bike that has been converted tubeless with Orange Seal products.
Hold the wheel in front of you with both hands in the 9-3 o’clock position. Shake the wheel towards and away from you, to see if there is enough sealant to coat the sidewalls, as you slowly rotate the tire 360 degrees. Can you hear the sealant inside the tire? If not, it might be time to add more sealant.
Make sure to add enough sealant, so that it will coat the entire inside of the tire sidewall as you slowly rotate the wheel, (keeping your hands in the 9-3 o’clock position) and continue to shake the wheel towards and away from you, to coat all interior linings of the tire. If the sealant seems to run out before rotating slowly for all 360 degrees, add more sealant, and try again.
WHY BUY ORANGE SEAL ?
Simple, because their products work, is Made in the USA, and of excellent quality.
HOW DO YOU STORE YOUR ORANGE SEAL SEALANT?
At RideFATbikes.ca, we frequently order our Orange Seal Sealant direct from the manufacturer, about once a month during the busy seasons.
Per advice from Orange Seal HQ, we store our sealant in a cool, dark, climate controlled environment.
We make sure to shake the sealant bottles up at least once a month, to slow any chemical process that might reduce efficacy of the sealant. This allows our sealant to last up to 1 year with full effectiveness.
